The plan – a day out

We meet at Borlänge train station and drive to a nearby nature reserve, known for its rich wildlife and excellent tracking conditions. This area has a mix of old coniferous forest, wetlands and hills – the perfect place to follow fresh signs of animals.

After a short introduction, we put on wooden forest skis and head out together. The pace is slow and calm. We stop often to look at tracks and signs, talk about behaviour, and learn how different animals move through the landscape.

We take a break for warm blueberry soup and sandwiches outdoors.

As daylight fades, we light a fire and enjoy a simple evening meal in the snowy forest. The atmosphere is quiet, peaceful and unforgettable.

After dinner we return to civilisation – or directly to Dala-Floda Inn for a warm bed and a cosy evening in the village.

Guides & Equipment

Jens Sarlin is a local tracker who has spent more than 20 years in these forests. He knows how to read every track, how the animals move and how to make you feel safe and comfortable on wooden skis. Spending a day in the snow with him is like walking with a living encyclopedia — warm, calm, knowledgeable.

Marcus Eldh, founder of WildSweden, will assist with tracking and make sure everyone stays warm and included.

We provide wooden skis from Tegsnäs that are easy to use and made for walking in forests. You can use any boots with these skis.
