One of us will be your guide
You travel in a small group, led by one of our local winter guides from start to finish. Your guide is with you throughout the journey, helping the group feel safe, included and well prepared throughout the journey.
Cathrin Larsson
Cathrin is an experienced outdoor guide with a strong background in mountain environments, winter travel and nature storytelling. She guides with a calm pace and helps guests notice tracks, birds, landscapes and small details along the way.
Christian Heimrot
Christian lives in Jokkmokk and knows the area, the winter conditions and the people here very well. He guides with calm confidence, includes everyone in the group and has a way of making winter outdoors feel safe and relaxed.
Your guide connects the journey
Your guide introduces each place, prepares you for the people you meet and helps connect the journey from day to day. This creates a calmer, more personal feeling in the group.
Accommodation
We have carefully chosen three places that each add something to the journey — a comfortable hotel in Luleå, a characterful guesthouse in Jokkmokk and quiet off-grid cabins in the forest.
First night in Luleå
Your first night is at a warm and comfortable hotel in Luleå, giving you a soft start before the journey north begins the next morning.
Two nights in Jokkmokk
You stay at a small, characterful guesthouse in a building that is more than 100 years old. You have a private room, shared bathrooms and a warm, personal atmosphere.
Two nights in off-grid cabins
Your last two nights are spent in warm, simple off-grid cabins in the forest, with wood heat, sauna, snow and meals in the main cabin.
There is no electricity in the cabins, and the toilets are simple outdoor toilets. From the parking area, we walk about 1 km along a snow-covered road to reach the cabins. Your luggage is transported by snowmobile.
Six days in Arctic Sweden
The journey gradually moves from Luleå into Jokkmokk, and then deeper into the winter forest. The last two nights in the off-grid cabins are the quiet heart of the tour — with snow, silence, fire, sauna, winter tracks and Caisa’s food.
-
Check in at your hotel in Luleå. No activities are planned this day. Rest after your trip, take a walk in town or enjoy a slow evening before the journey north begins tomorrow.
-
Meet your guide and travel north towards Jokkmokk. On the way, we stop at Storforsen, one of Europe’s biggest free-flowing rapids — a powerful mix of snow, ice and rushing water.
In the afternoon we arrive in Jokkmokk and check in at our guesthouse. Later we visit Anna, a Sámi reindeer herder who gives a personal introduction to Jokkmokk, reindeer and winter life in Sápmi.
You meet some of her reindeer before sharing dinner inside her lávvu, seated on reindeer skins around an open fire. Outside it is dark and cold; inside there is warmth, firelight and stories. If the sky is clear, you can step outside to look for the Northern Lights.
-
Today your guide takes you out to search for moose in some of the best areas around Jokkmokk. We travel through a beautiful winter landscape of forests, frozen water and open views, often seeing both moose and reindeer along the way.
During the tour, we stop on the ice, light a fire and prepare lunch outdoors — a simple but memorable Arctic meal in the snowy landscape.
Later, you can visit Ájtte museum at your own pace. Some guests love learning more about nature, Sámi culture and the history of the area, while others enjoy the museum shop with Sámi handicrafts.
After dinner, if the sky is clear, we head out again to search for the Northern Lights from dark and scenic places around Jokkmokk.
-
We visit an old pine forest near Jokkmokk, known for northern winter birds such as Crested tit, Siberian tit, and Siberian jay. The forest has been protected partly because of the birdlife here, making this more than a birdwatching stop — it is a small conservation story in the snow.
After a walk through the forest, we leave Jokkmokk behind and travel deeper into the winter landscape. More than an hour from town, our friend Caisa welcomes us to her remote off-grid cabins.
Here there are no streetlights, no traffic and no other people around. Just snow, darkness, fire, warmth, sauna and quiet forest. Caisa has Sámi roots and a deep interest in local food, natural ingredients and the flavours of the north.
-
This is the day when you move deeper into nature. We head out on skis or snowshoes, depending on conditions and what feels best for the group, crossing frozen mires, forest and lakes.
Your guide loves this way of travelling in winter — moving through deep snow, following tracks and sharing stories about the animals that live here.
Later there is time to warm up in the wood-fired sauna, roll in the snow if you like, and sit down to one of the finest meals of the journey — prepared by Caisa with local ingredients and northern flavours.
-
We enjoy a proper breakfast and a final moment together before leaving the cabins.
We travel back to Luleå and arrive around lunchtime, with drop-off at the airport.
LOCATION & HOW TO GET HERE
Meeting point: Hotell Savoy, Luleå — check-in from 15:00 (Day 1). Google Map link
Your guide meets the group at the hotel reception at 10:30 (Day 2). From there, you travel together towards Jokkmokk.
At the end of the adventure we take you back to Luleå Airport or central Luleå — around 12:30 (Day 6). Please book your return flight or train at 13:30 or later.
Getting here by train
We recommend taking the night train from Stockholm or Arlanda to Luleå. It is a slower, lower-impact way to travel north, and you can book a bed in a shared or private compartment. Book train tickets at SJ. Once you arrive in Luleå, it is a short walk from the train station to Hotell Savoy.
Getting here by air
You can fly from Stockholm Arlanda to Luleå Airport with SAS or Norwegian. The flight takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
There may also be seasonal direct winter flights to Luleå from other European cities, including Zürich and Paris. These routes can change between seasons, so please check current flights before booking.
From Luleå Airport, it takes about 15–20 minutes to reach central Luleå by taxi or local bus. Since there are no activities on Day 1, you can arrive whenever it suits you.
