Wolverines in the Summer night

Your invitation to a Secret Adventure

Secret Adventures are exclusive trips shared only with our subscribers. Sometimes it’s a twist on a past trip, and sometimes it’s something completely new. The exact locations are kept secret to protect these special places.

Last year’s journey gave us exactly the kind of result we had hoped for: excellent encounters with both wolverine and bear. This Summer we are returning with new confidence, a small group and another chance to spend a summer night watching some of Scandinavia’s most elusive wildlife.

guides

This adventure is led by WildSweden guide Zsombor, together with our local host Marco.

This is a trip for patience, silence and attention to detail. Your guide helps you make sense of the landscape, the animals and the rhythm of the night, while keeping the experience calm, respectful and grounded in the reality of wild nature. If you are interested in photography, you can also pick up practical tips along the way.

Marco has created the setup we use for watching wolverines and bears, and shares stories from his work connected to wolverine and bear research.

Zsombor leads the journey in the field and helps shape the pace of the experience, from the walk in the forest to the long quiet hours of wildlife watching.

Accommodation

You spend the night in floating hides set beside the forest, created for quiet wildlife watching in one of our most unusual settings. There are two hides next to each other, shared within the group. Inside, the setup is simple but comfortable, with mattresses for resting during the night and separate toilets attached to each hide. The point is not luxury, but to stay close to the place where wolverines and bears may appear.

1 night in the wild

  • You meet your guide in Ljusdal and head into the forest landscape where this journey begins. Before the night ahead, you spend time outdoors in a nearby nature reserve, walking through the area and getting a better feel for the wider landscape.

Along the way, you hear more about wolverines, bears and the place you are about to experience.

Later, after dinner, it is time to head out to the floating hides and settle in for the summer night.

We take turns watching and sleeping to maximize our chances throughout the night.

  • The night is spent watching, resting and staying alert for movement outside the hide.

Later in the morning, you return for breakfast. Before heading back to Ljusdal, there is time to reflect on the experience and spend a little longer in the forest.

FOR WHO?

This journey is for you if you are drawn to rare wildlife, quiet forest landscapes and unusual nights out in nature. You do not need to be a photographer, but it helps if you enjoy watching closely, staying patient and taking things slowly.

You should be comfortable walking short distances in the forest and spending many hours sitting quietly in the hide. This is not a physically demanding trip, but it does require patience, attention and an interest in the experience itself, even if wildlife appears only briefly.

Recommended minimum age: 15 years.

There are two hides available – one with 5 seats and one with 3 seats. If the group size exceeds 5 persons, we will divide into two groups during the night.

Since silence is essential inside the hides, we will share and reflect on our experiences together and have the opportunity to ask the guide questions the following morning.
