Wolf howling in Summer

A 2-day thrilling adventure in a Wolf territory. The Summer season (July-September) is a good time to be out with the Wolves. If pups are born there is usually good activity and this offers good chances to hear and howl along with the Wolves at night. Although we rarely see Wolves it does happen every now and then.
- Big chance to hear Wolves howl (70-80 percent)
- Chance to see Wolf (10-20 percent)
- Spend the night in Wolf territory
- Learn how to track Wolf
- Slide show presentation with researcher at Grimsö Research Station
Wolves are without a doubt fascinating animals that attract peoples interest more than any other wildlife in the Swedish ecosystem. Mysterious, charismatic, wild and powerful – they stir our imagination, interest and passion.
Our skilled guides will take you close to one of the local Wolf packs. It is rare to see them but there is still a chance, and just being near to these mystical animals is an experience in itself. During this tour you have the option to sleep one night in a canvas tent right in the Wolf territory.
We travel together by foot and by car in small groups under skilled guidance in one of Sweden´s wolf territories. We offer big chances to hear and howl along with wolves, see tracks and feel their presence. While few people ever get the chance to actually see a wolf, many of our guests have listened to wolves’ howling, and hearing a wolf pack howl in their natural habitat certainly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Our tours are run in cooperation with researchers at Grimsö Wildlife Research Station. Grimsö is Sweden’s leading research center for predators such as Lynx, Brown Bear and Wolf. The tour includes a visit to the station and a detailed lecture on Wolves by a researcher with years of experience of field work with the Scandinavian Wolf population. They share their stories and teaches us more about Wolves in an exclusive in-depth lecture before we head out for our own first-hand experiences in the nearby Wolf territory.
We eat dinner together by the open fire and accommodate in a canvas tent with sleeping bags right in the middle of the wild and lush Wolf territory. We often get up early in the morning and scope for wildlife in meadows and fields. After a long night in the woods we drive to a nearby guesthouse and treat ourselves with a well deserved brunch before we conclude the tour and head back to civilisation with lots of memories. Join us for this hair-raising howling adventure and learn more about this fascinating predator.
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival, Wolf howling tour
The tour begins after lunch with a visit at Grimsö Wildlife Research Station where we are welcomed by one of Sweden’s foremost Wolf researchers who gives us an in-depth lecture on Wolves. Later in the afternoon we head out to the nearby Wolf territory to set up a camp nearby the Wolves current position. We have an outdoor dinner by the fire and then spend the evening and night watching and listening for Wolves. After a late night we sleep in a canvas tent together in warm sleeping bags.
Day 2 Early morning watching and departure
Depending on what happened during the night we might get up early in the morning for some more watching. Later on we pack our camp together and go to a nearby guesthouse for a nice brunch before we conclude the tour at lunch time.

Wildlife information: Please note that Wolves in Sweden are very shy and difficult to see in the wild. Our main focus is to listen for howls, to see prints, territorial markings, killed prey and to feel their presence. If the situation is promising, we will also try to see Wolves at some strategic location. Although we rarely see Wolves it does happen occasionally. Our guides work hard and spend a lot of time tracking in several Wolf territories to be able to locate the Wolves all year around.

Thank you for the experience you brought us last weekend. The feeling of seeing a wild wolf and later to hear their howling at dawn was truly amazing.
The presentation by Per Ahlqvist at the research station was also very rewarding for me as I am involved in the Moose population management.
I enjoyed waking up by the lake and birds calling, but if I could choose myself I would have been up before dawn.
Thank you Marcus. I will recommend this to my friends.

We saw the Wolves!
We were hidden in the shrub and saw five Wolves wrestling and later heard them howling. It was better than every action movie!

I was hoping to see tracks and at the best hear them howling, but I was surprised when Marcus actually managed to guide us to see the Wolves live!
We watched them playing around for a long time and I thought to myself: “Is this actually happening to me?” At the same time I must admit it was a bit scary. The guide called for them and surprisingly the whole Wolf pack answered with their howling and wailing.
Thank you Marcus for taking us to the Wolves’ head quarter!

We are still in trance since the Wolf howling last weekend, it was wonderful! That proves that even city-slickers are impressed by the great wonders of nature. You and the Wolves delivered a big success!

Thank you for a well arranged wolf tour. To listen to a wolf family howling i moonlight is something very special indeed.
Swedish:
Tack för en mycket väl genomförd safari. Att få lyssna på en vargfamilj som ylar i månsken är något alldeles extra.
